چکیده

This paper describes the growth and transplantation of an androgen/estrogen-induced, hormone-responsive uterine leiomyosarcoma of the Syrian hamster and of several autonomous variants derived from it. The tumor progresses toward autonomy rapidly. In serial transplan tation, short periods (100 to 200 days) of androgen/estrogen treatment favor retention of a typical leiomyosar coma architectural pattern; long treatment (250 to 350 days) favors progression to a very atypical pattern. Re moval of hormone support, following establishment of good transplant growth, favors increased malignancy. Both hormone-responsive primary tumor and autono mous, nonresponsive variants are available in a liquid nitrogen tumor bank.

Spontaneous differentiated squamous cell carcinoma of cheek pouch in a Syrian hamster

A 2-year-old male hamster was presented because of left facial swelling and salivation. Necropsy wasperformed and affected cheek pouch with tissue samples of regional and internal organs were submitted forhistopathological study. In histopathological examination it was found that the tumor consisted of cords andislands of tumoric epithelial cells which were diffused in the dermis. Vacoulation o...

Autonomous derivatives of estrogen-induced renal carcinomas and spontaneous renal tumors in the Syrian hamster.

carcinomas, all of which are available in a liquid nitrogen tumor bank, are included. Although androgen inhibits estrogen tumorigenesis in the Syrian hamster kidney, it can be substituted successfully for estrogen in maintaining growth of early transplant serial passages. In such transplants hormone dependency is usually lost between the 12th and 20th serial passages (autonomy). These autonomou...

Enhanced expression of transient receptor potential channel 3 in uterine smooth muscle tissues of lipopolysaccharide-induced preterm delivery mice

Objective(s): We aimed to investigate the influence of transient receptor potential channel 3 (TRPC3) on lipopolysaccharide-induced (LPS) preterm delivery mice. Materials and Methods: Mice were randomly assigned to the four groups: an unpregnant group, a mid-pregnancy group (E15), a term delivery group, and an LPS-induced preterm delivery group (intraperitoneal injection LPS at 15 days). Uterin...

Autonomous variants of an androgen/estrogen-induced and -dependent ductus deferens leiomyosarcoma of the Syrian hamster.

This paper describes two autonomous variants derived from originally androgen/estrogen-induced and hormone-dependent leiomyosarcomas of ductuli deferentia of Syrian hamsters. The selection of autonomous variants from an assumed heterogeneous population of tumor cells with varying degrees of hormone dependency was facilitated by withdrawal of hormone support from transplanted tumors, thereby han...

Aurora a and B overexpression and centrosome amplification in early estrogen-induced tumor foci in the Syrian hamster kidney: implications for chromosomal instability, aneuploidy, and neoplasia.

Estrogen-induced Syrian hamster tumors in the kidney represent a useful model to gain insight into the role of estrogens in oncogenic processes. We provided evidence that early tumor foci in the kidney arise from interstitial ectopic uterine-like germinal stem cells, and that early tumor foci and well-established tumors are highly aneuploid (92-94%). The molecular mechanisms whereby estrogens m...
